Guided by Dr Zhooriyati Sehu Mohd, Senior Lecturer at APU’s School of Psychology (SoP), Umaima engaged in intense deliberations to explore the root causes, consequences, and solutions to child recruitment in armed conflicts. Through moderated and unmoderated caucuses, she collaborated with international delegates, refining her negotiation and critical thinking skills while developing a strong resolution.
Umaima delved into the psychological trauma faced by child soldiers, the disruption of their education, and the long-term socio-economic consequences of forced recruitment. She highlighted key concerns, including family separation, sexual exploitation, forced labour, and exposure to violence—all of which contribute to a devastating cycle of exploitation.
