Making an Impact through Psychology at MAPSA 2024

The School of Psychology (SoP) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) recently participated in the Malaysian Psychology Students Assembly (MAPSA) 2024, which gathered psychology students nationwide for an enriching two-day conference filled with research presentations, networking, and professional development.

On top of that, this conference provided a platform for both undergraduate and postgraduate students to engage in academic discourse and skill-building workshops, enhancing their knowledge of various psychological disciplines.

Exploring Psychological Frontiers

The conference provided attendees with thought-provoking discussions on a wide array of psychological topics, effectively bridging traditional and emerging disciplines.

Moreover, keynote sessions delved into unconventional psychological themes, encouraging attendees to challenge conventional boundaries and explore new perspectives.

Furthermore, research presentations spanned a diverse range of fields, including cognitive processes, workplace dynamics, and the psychological effects of technology.

Notably, the conference also highlighted the evolving nature of psychology, incorporating modern approaches such as cyberpsychology and environmental psychology.

Insights and Aspirations from the Conference

Ms Amirah Husna Mohamad Hata Abdullah (Psychology Lab Technician, SoP at APU) highlighted how the conference was insightful as it provided opportunities to network and learn from experts, enabling the design of suitable experiments for future learning and teaching sessions.

Similarly, Ms Dhevaania C Gendsen (Lecturer, SoP at APU) found the conference inspiring, emphasising its usefulness in applying mindful listening skills when engaging with colleagues and students.

On top of that, she highlighted how these skills could foster more effective communication, enhance mutual understanding, and create a more supportive learning and working environment.

Meanwhile, Ms Vinorra Shaker (Associate Head, SoP at APU), who played a key role in the conference as one of the esteemed panel judges for the “Industrial & Organisational Psychology” and “Health & Clinical Psychology” sessions, emphasised how such engagements foster intellectual growth and drive meaningful advancements in the field of psychology.

She also expressed her hope that the conference would continue to serve as a catalyst for innovative research and collaborative efforts, inspiring future psychologists to make impactful contributions to the field.
